PET Scans Link Low Dopamine Levels and Aggression

PET imaging has demonstrated a link between low dopamine levels and aggression in young healthy adults — surprisingly opposite results from what was previously hypothesized, said researchers in a presentation at the Society of Nuclear Medicine’s Annual Meeting, in Miami Beach, Fla., this week.

Sleep deprivation reduces dopamine D2 receptors in the reward circuit

COMMENTS: A decline in D2 receptors is a major marker for an addiction process. They probably bounce back fairly quickly with sleep (a guess). Good reason to get proper sleep. Note that sleep deprivation is associated with overeating. May be related to lower D2 receptors.

We lay out a bit of the politics and bureaucratic machinery involved in blocking the diagnosis of Internet porn addiction. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) undergoes revision every 15 years or so. If it's not in the DSM, it doesn't exist.
