Chicken McNuggets 'Addict' Collapses

A 10-piece serving of McNuggets packs 470 calories, 270 of those pure fat.

​McDonald's Chicken McNuggets are causing all sorts of mayhem lately. First there was the woman who allegedly tried to trade sex for McNuggets (no word on what kind of dipping sauce she wanted). Now, a British teenager allegedly has collapsed after a lifetime of eating McNuggets, and only McNuggets.

According to the Daily Mail, 17-year-old factory worker Stacey Irvine of Castle Vale, Birmingham, has consumed no food items other than McNuggets since the time she could chew food (age 2). (Apparently Irvine also eats French fries, and has tried toast and potato chips once or twice.) She says she has never tasted fresh fruit or vegetables.

"My main meal is always chicken nuggets every day," she told the Mail. "McDonald's chicken nuggets are my favorite. ... But I also like KFC and supermarket brands."

After being hospitalized last week after struggling to breathe and collapsing at work, "she has been warned by doctors to change her appalling diet or die," the Mail reports.

Now recovering at home on a high-dose course of vitamins, Irvine says she'll never give up the McNugs.

"She's been told in no uncertain terms that she will die if she carries on like this," her exasperated mother, Evonne, chimed in. "But Stacey says she can't eat anything else. It breaks my heart to see her eating those damned nuggets."

Nutritionist Dr Carina Norris told the Mail that she believes Irvine's diet will have serious long-term health implications, as her body lacks iron, calcium, antioxidants, vitamins and healthy fats. Irvine's McNuggets diet is high in saturated fat and sodium.

A 20-piece portion of McNuggets -- Irvine's preference -- contains 58 grams of fat and 926 calories. It also packs 1,800 milligrams of sodium, more than the U.S. daily recommended allowance of 1,500 milligrams. Such a diet can raise blood pressure, weaken the immune system and lead to an increased risk of heart attack or stroke, particularly with age. An emerging body of research has also linked excessive sodium intake to cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes, dementia, sleep apnea and kidney disease, according to MSNBC.

MSNBC also states, "Research shows that salt actually triggers the release of the feel-good neurotransmitter dopamine, which makes salty foods as addictive as nicotine and alcohol. And just like with any addiction, eating salty foods makes your body crave more. In other words, the more Chicken McNuggets you have, the more you crave them."

Well. That explains why this British girl is such a barmy lass, as well as the local young lady who allegedly attempted to prostitute herself for McNuggets. Maybe McDonald's should rename them Chicken McCrack.

you can live on most anything until your twenties. I read another account which said her mother tried everything...even not feeding her anything but healthy food. The child chose to starve instead of eat it.... What mother could tolerate that for long??

It's amazing that the body

It's amazing that the body can grow and develop on junk fuel.

Chicken nuggets aren't even that good. There's no comparison to tasty, healthy food. Her brain must be really wired for nuggets. That withdrawal is going to be awful.

Meat rant

I don't know how they make McNuggets but meat is a perfectly healthy and nutrient dense food. Maybe fast food is packed with additives, sugar and other bad things for our bodies, but lots of people seem to incriminate fast food for its high calorie content, and especially for the dreaded pure fat. There's nothing in the world wrong with (saturated) fat, your brain and spine are practically made of it and it's the body's form of storing energy. To me, high calorie is a feature not a bug as long as sugar is low. If I have to choose between getting my 2000 calories and proper protein/fat ratios from one cup of food or from one bucket of food, guess which one I'm going to choose? The densest form of nutrients possible, because I want to tax my intestines as little as possible. Anyways, end of rant.

Anybody seen the movie

Anybody seen the movie Fathead? It's an excellent response to the movie Super Size Me, one of the many movies full of finger pointing at the fast food industry and how it's causing the downfall of civilization.

I would love to see a picture of this girl after all those years of only nuggets.

In the special features for supersize me that guy left fries from a variety of fast food places in a jar for like a few months i think and everyone elses fries like grew all gross except for McDs fries. Their fries stayed exactly the same, they didnt deteriorate whatsoever. Imagine what they do in your stomach?!?!?!?!?

This woman might actually

This woman might actually getting B vitamins from the autolyzed yeast extract. I don't know exactly what that is, but yeast contain B's.

And UUUUGGGhHH!........ UUUrrgggghh! How exactly were they getting away with feeding us "pink goo" made with ammonium hydroxide. Oh well, guess the bleach might cancel out the ammonia...

What I don't get is exactly

What I don't get is exactly why adding all these processes to our food makes it cost LESS. I mean, it takes time and energy to do all this, why does it cost less.

Like how wheat flour and bread is more expensive than white, when white is just wheat stripped of the nutrients.

The point of the meat treatment was to make

contaminated meat 'safe' to eat. Saving a few pennies a pound, because it was more beef that didn't have to be turned into waste product, or dog food. It also has a longer shelf-life, meaning less waste. When you're producing billions of pounds of meat a year - a penny or two a pound is a lot.

White bread/flour has a much longer shelf life and better performance in factory processing than does whole wheat. The genetic modification of wheat has also created a product with a much higher gluten content - this makes for easier handing, faster rising, and a more tasty/addictive product.

When I make pumpkin muffins from coconut flour and pumpkin and eggs - they will ferment or grow mold in just two days if I don't freeze them. A twinkle would probably last forever.

Obesity/diet is the big focus

Obesity/diet is the big focus right now in public health. Campaigns and policy are being formed with the same strategy as tobacco. This will require broadening the definition of addiction from a measurable substance to a generalized behavioral response for the best effect. There needs to be some intervention, this stuff is addictive and is making people sick. These kids are going to be craving and struggling with this trash their entire adult lives.

I don't know how it affects casomorphins, but I believe that the more fermented/aged it is, the better it is for you. Parmesan is aged much longer than other cheeses.

Probiotics are best served in dairy products. Maybe the microorganisms like casomorphins, too...

Edit: But I also think that homemade probiotics are much better for you than anything you find in a store bc I think the strict sanitation protocols they use restrict the variety of probiotic organisms, like, for example, kefir. You cannot get real kefir with the master antioxidant kefiran in a store and you can also make cheese with it.
