My question is exactly what the title reads

Is masturbating without ejaculation, still count as masturbation. In other words stroking my penis, getting it up, but not having an orgasm or ejaculating count as masturbation.

I'm at a point where I'm trying to quit the habit of masturbating and porn. Together and individually. Both I believe have very negatively affected my sexual well being. Because of them I have always had trouble with real sexual intercourse with women. I'm 32 now, and still have this problem. I have quit watching porn on Jun 3 2010, but stupidly went to a strip club on Jun 27 2010. So In reality I quit on Jun 28 2010. At the same time I quit ejaculation also Jun 28 2010. It has now been about 22 days. I do feel better, but I have stroked my penis on a number of occasions. so I would like to know

Is stroking my penis without ejaculation count as masturbation and does it hurt my recovery?

Yes, and yes.

However, it is an incremental improvement. Just try to stay away from high levels of arousal. Work towards not touching your own genitals except for hygiene and scratching (we are guys after all! Smile )

Good question

Is stroking my penis without ejaculation count as masturbation and does it hurt my recovery?

I'm inclined to say no. Your not orgasming and therefore you don't go through the post orgasm cycle. However, you are playing with fire. It's so easy to ejaculate that I'd advise not to stroke. My two cents.

More than playing with fire

It is more than playing with fire. It is self stimulation, with or without the orgasm / ejaculation. From dictionary.com, masturbation is: the stimulation or manipulation of one's own genitals, esp. to orgasm; sexual self-gratification.

It is a step towards stooping masturbation, but it is still masturbation.

The important point is what does ejp want to achieve? Also, what is in his head while he is doing this self stimulation. Splitting hairs over definitions is just that. If he wants to stop masturbation, sooner or later he will have to quit playing with his penis. I see this as a step in the right direction, but still masturbation... The shift in brain chemistry as he receives less and less reward will sooner or later allow him to stop altogether.
